1. Work on your resume
In order to bag the perfect job at the end of your graduation, you need to stand out from the crowd. There will be several thousand students graduating on the same day as you and job opportunities do not match that number. In order to catch that dream job, you must start developing your resume from day one. Not superficially, but gather actual experience from various internships and online courses. A good resume is very important.
2. Make contacts
Irrespective of the course you are pursuing, you are bound to be surrounded by experts in your field of interest if you are in a well-ranked college. Make sure to utilize that to your advantage and make contacts. Senior students, professors, exchange students, the guest speaker in some event etc, all of them are excellent potential contacts. Widening your network helps a lot in the long run, especially if you are pursuing a professional degree.
3. Avoid distractions
There will be a substantial number of opportunities that come your way and there will be enormous instances of peer pressure which might distract you from your ultimate aim. You must always keep in mind that there is no shortcut to success and to achieve your aim you must put in hard labor. So have a little fun once a while, but stay focused and don’t get absolutely distracted. There will be infinite numbers of distractions.
Being a straight O student has no point if you end up becoming a bookworm. College is the perfect time to work on your extracurricular and develop some hobbies. Make sure you work on your personality as well. Extracurricular is also an important part of the resume apart from the academics.
Although an all-rounder student is always preferred by the recruiters. But it is essential to understand that extracurricular can’t be substituted for academics. There are no excuses for a poor performance in the subjects of your choice. So in a case of conflict of interests, prioritize the academics.
6. One step at a time
It is impossible to be the best at everything from the beginning. So it is utmost important to make small goals and work your way forward accordingly. Plan at the beginning of the semester what is it that you want to accomplish at the end of the 6 month period, it can be anything from getting an article published to getting rid of stage fear. Work on it throughout the semester and finish a winner.
Keeping all that in mind, don’t forget to have fun and make friends for a life. College is a beautiful experience and since we put in so much time, energy and money on it. It becomes essential to get positive results at the end along with memories of a lifetime.
