SSC MTS Descriptive Paper – An Overview

The main thing about SSC MTS Descriptive Paper is that you would have to write long answers to questions. In Paper I, you would only have to choose the right answer from the given list of options. The pattern of the paper is given below:

The topics for essay keep on changing in the SSC MTS exam. You would be given options. This means that you would be given a number of topics and you would have to write on any one of them. For example, in 2017, the topics were:

The Word Limit for the Essay in SSC MTS Paper II

The word limit for the essay in SSC MTS Paper II is usually 250 words. This means that you have to finish your entire essay within 250 words. Please note that this doesn’t mean that it should be exactly 250. It can be 240 or 260 as well. However, don’t make it 200 or 300 as you would lose huge marks in both the cases.

Marking Scheme for the Essay

Your essay would be judged and marked on the following areas:

  • Presentation – You would get more marks if you could present and explain your points in the right way. Your essay should have a distinct introduction, body, and conclusion.
  • Language – There is no need to use complex words. Write in simple English but the examiner should able to understand what you are trying to write without any issues.
  • Errors – Simple things like spelling mistakes and grammatical errors can reduce your marks. So try to avoid them as much as you can.

The Topics for Letter Writing in SSC MTS Paper II

The topics for letter writing can be divided into two categories – Official and Personal. In previous years, the following topics were there:

  • Write to the electricity board complaining about the issues with the electricity supply in your neighborhood.
  • Write a complaint letter to the librarian about the lack of proper management
  • Ask your father for permission to visit Jaipur with your friends.
  • Ask your friend to visit your place during summer vacation.

In most years, there would be at least one official letter and one personal letter. You can attempt either one.

The Word Limit for Letter Writing in SSC MTS Descriptive Paper

The word limit for the letter is 150 words. This means that you have to finish your entire essay within 15o words. Please note that this doesn’t mean that it should be exactly 150. It can be 140 or 160 as well. However, don’t make it 100 or 200 as you would lose huge marks in both the cases.

  • Format – You should follow the traditional format of letter writing. Try to use the right salutations, like ‘Respected sir’, ‘Dear father’, ‘Yours Faithfully’ etc.
