SSC JE Space Visualization Questions are one of the trickiest parts of the General Intelligence and Reasoning Section in SSC JE Paper I. But this also makes it quite important. This is because a lot of students would probably give wrong answers here. So, those students who have prepared well will get an edge. Therefore, you should definitely make space visualization a central part in SSC JE preparation. Let us take a look at how you can solve SSC JE space visualization questions with ease and accuracy.
Different Categories of SSC JE Space Visualization Questions
In SSC JE, two different types of questions are asked under space visualization. They are popularly known as ‘dice’ questions and ‘cube’ questions.
In Dice questions, you would be given two or three images of a cubic dice and they would have a number on every face of it. You would be asked to deduce the number on a face on which you cannot see. We would get to know more details later on.
In Cube questions, you would be given an image of multiple cubes or a single cube and they would be shaded or marked in different ways. Like the dice questions, you would be asked to deduce the arrangement on a face that you can’t see.
Solving SSC JE Dice Questions
Let us first understand how you can solve dice questions
Given below is an example of a sample dice question.
Which digit will appear on the face opposite to the face with the number 4?
Options
- 4
- 3
- 5
- 1
The Easiest Way to Solve SSC Space Visualization Questions – Dice Questions
Dice questions seem to be tough on the face of it, but they are really easy if you know certain tricks. Let us take a look at one of the easiest ways to solve dice questions.
The trick is relatively simple. But there is one condition – one of the faces should not change the position.
Take the case of the example we have just cited. One of the faces – the left face, is constant. It is the only face that remains in its place. What is on it? 3
Now, you need to note the numbers of the faces on the dice, in a clockwise direction starting from the constant number.
So, if you look at the first dice, you would a sequence like 3-1-2
Similarly, for the second dice, you would have a sequence like 3-5-6
According to this trick, the opposite face of 2 would 6. Similarly, the opposite face of 1 would be 5. Now, we are only left with 3 and 4, which would be on the opposite side of each other. Hence, the right answer to the question is option (A) – 3.
Some Other Tricks to Solve SSC JE Dice Questions
When you are solving dice questions for SSC JE reasoning test, it really comes in handy to remember the following few tricks. They would help you to solve questions quickly and accurately.
- If two sides of the dice are common, then the remaining two sides are opposite to each other. For example, take a look at the following question
- If one side of the dice remains the same but its position changes. In such a case, you would have to apply the ‘clockwise counting’ rule that we just described. Start from the constant number and then write the numbers as they appear in the clockwise direction. For example, take a look at the following question
In both the dice, 2 is the common face but its position changes.
In case of the first dice, if we count in the clockwise direction from 2, we would have sequence
2..1..4
In case of the second dice, we would have the sequence as
2..3..6
Therefore, according to our rule
6 would be opposite to 4
3 would be opposite to 1
5 would be opposite to 2 as we cannot see 5 in either positions.
Some Practice Questions for SSC JE Dice Questions
Question: Take a look at the different positions of dice given above. What would be the number on the face opposite to 1
Options:
- 2
- 5
- 4
- 6
Answer – 5
Question: Which of the colors would be opposite to Grey?
Options
a) Golden
b) Green
c) Purple
d) Brown
Answer – Golden
Solving SSC JE Cube Questions
Now, let us move onto the next category of SSC JE Space Visualization Questions – Cubes. Cube questions are generally asked in the following way
The questions is asking to choose the dice that can be made by folding the given paper
Rules for Solving SSC JE Cube Questions
Cube questions can be solved by memorizing these simple rules. When you are looking for SSC JE preparation, try to memorize the following rules
Now, let us take a look at the example that we just cited before. If you look at it closely, you would find that it has a resemblance to the image on the top right corner.
Therefore, according to this
Diamonds would be opposite to Clubs
Circle would be opposite to Triangle
Square would be opposite to hearts
Therefore, the right answer to the question is option (B)
