SSC JE Image Classification | SSC JE Reasoning Topics

Image classification questions are quite common in SSC JE exam. Image classification questions are basically all about choosing the odd image from the list of given images. Such type of questions came frequently in the previous year examinations. Therefore, it is expected that in SSC JE 2019, there would at least a few questions from this section. If you are preparing for SSC JE reasoning, then you should prepare for this section. Let us see how you should approach SSC JE Image Classification questions.

Solving SSC JE Image Classification Questions

The First Few Moments After Getting the Question

You must understand that you would hardly be getting 1 to 2 seconds to read and understand the question. Now, there is a lot that you need to do in these few moments. The most important thing that you need to do is clear your mind of the previous question. If your previous question had been difficult, don’t let it influence the current question. This comes through practice. So, when you are doing your practice tests of SSC JE reasoning, you should practice this approach.

The next thing that you should do is read the question carefully. Now, in Image Classification questions, reading the questions means looking at the images. Usually, there would be four images. So, your job would be to look carefully at the images. In the beginning, this would take some time. But gradually, as you practice some more, things would quicker.

The bottom line is simple – you have to understand the question perfectly in the first few moments. This goes for all the topics in SSC JE exam. For mastering that, you need practice. No matter what techniques you use, what books you read, there is simply no alternative to practice.

Using the ‘LBCA’ Technique for solving SSC JE Image Classification Questions

The ‘LBCA’ technique is the simplest way of solving Image classification questions in SSC JE exam. The letters are the names of the steps to follow when you are trying to solve such questions. It stands for ‘Look-Break-Compare- Answer’. Let us take a look at what it’s all about.

STEP 1 – LOOK – The first thing that you need to do is look at the images. The images would have certain similarities and certain dissimilarities. But, before you can actually spot the similarities or dissimilarities, you should identify the features. Therefore, the ‘LOOK’ step is really important.
STEP 2 – BREAK – Now, that we have looked at the images and identified the main features, we would need to break the images in our mind according to their features. This is especially important when the images are complicated.
STEP 3 – COMPARE – After that, you need to compare the images on the basis of the features. This would help you spot the similarity or the differences between them. You must note that the similarities may not be visual all the time. Sometimes, there can be other logical relations between the images as well.
STEP 4 – ANSWER – Once, you have found the similarity or the similarity just go ahead and answer it!

Example Solutions for Image Classification in SSC JE

Question: Choose the figure which is different from the rest.

sample 1 -SSC JE image classification

1         2        3        4         5

  • LOOK -The first thing that we are going to do is look. When we look at these images, we would find that the images contain two lines that are beside one another.
  • BREAK – Since there are not many features in the images, we don’t need to do much ‘breaking up’ in this case.
  • COMPARE –  When we look at the first two images, we see that the lines are parallel to each other. Same applies to images 4 and 5 as well. However, in image 3, the lines are not parallel.
  • ANSWER – We discovered that image 3 doesn’t belong to the series.

Correct Answer: Image 5

Let us now look at a different kind of example for SSC JE image classification questions.

Question: Choose the figure which is different from the rest.

sample 2 -SSC JE image classification

  • LOOK – When you look at the images, you would find that the images are made of geometrical shapes and pins.
  • BREAK – Now, we break the images into shapes and pins. Let us look at some of the features. Image 1 is a pentagon and has five pins. Image 2 is a triangle with three pins. Does that mean that the number of pins equal to the number of sides of the shape? We look at the other images in the series and discover that is indeed the case.
  • COMPARE – We had just touched on a possible answer in the previous step. Anyways, now let us compare the images. On closer comparison, we find that in Images 2,3,4 and 5, the pins are attached to the sides. Whereas in Image 1, the pins are attached to the vertex. There, we have our dissimilarity!
  • ANSWER – Image 1 is different from the rest! Who would have thought that it would be that simple?

Correct Answer: Image 1
