The Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Entrance Exam, popular by the acronym PGIMER Examination 2018, is a national-level standardized joint entrance exam organized and conducted twice a year on January and July in various centers across Chandigarh by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research(PGIMER), a premier medical education and research institute in Chandigarh that was recognized as an Institute of National Importance  in 1967, to screen candidates to the MS/MD programs offered by the institute.

Eligibility Requirements

The following conditions must be met with to be eligible for application to the MS/MD programs offered by the institute:

  • The candidate must have passed MBBS from any University recognized by the Medical Council Of India(MCI).
  • The candidate must have completed the internship training on or before 31st December 2018.
  • The candidate must be registered in the Central/State Medical Registration Council.

Application Procedure

Documents Required 

  • Digital copy of the candidate’s recent photograph in JPG/JPEG format with a minimum size of 15KB and a maximum size of 50KB.
  • Digital copy of the candidate’s signature in JPG/JPEG format with a minimum size of 5KB and a maximum size of 20KB.
  • Digital copy of the candidate’s Internship Certificate in JPG/JPEG/PDF format with a minimum size of 50KB and a maximum size of 300KB.
  • Digital copy of the candidate’s Category Certificate in JPG/JPEG/PDF format with a minimum size of 50KB and a maximum size of 300KB.

How to Apply

Online application forms for the January session will be made available on the official PGI website, from October first week 2018. Click ‘Apply Now’and fill in your personal details including your name, your parents’ names, date of birth, gender, nationality, marital status, mobile number, and email ID. Click ‘Continue’ and after ensuring that you have entered the right details, submit. Login using the login  ID and password sent to your email. Fill in your educational details and click ‘Submit’. Upload the digital copy of your photograph, signature, internship certificate, and category certificate in the prescribed format. Following this, the candidate has to pay the prescribed amount as the registration fee offline through SBI Challan or through SBI I-Collect Service. The details of the amount to be remitted are given in the following table:

Admit Cards

Admit Cards for the successfully registered candidates can be downloaded from the official website from November second week 2018 by giving your login credentials. A hard-copy of the same has to be brought to the examination center.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

PGIMER Exam is a national-level offline exam spanning 3 hours conducted in various centers across Chandigarh. This theory-based test has a total of 250 multiple-choice questions with five alternatives and one or more correct answers. There will be a penalty for each of the wrong answers. Though PGIMER Chandigarh does not define a specific syllabus for the exam, the topics covered include the following:

Results and Cut-off

Candidates can access the results of PGIMER Examination 2018 on 26th November 2018 from the PGI official website by entering their roll number and date of birth. Selected candidates will be called to attend the Counseling Session. The cut-off percentile for different categories is as given in the following table:

The allocation of various disciplines of MD/MS programs is determined on the basis of the counseling session organized and held in the campus premises in various rounds. Ensure your timely presence at the venue with the following documents:
