National Institute Of Fashion Technology is a public university dedicated for fashion studies ranked 19th in the 2017 best fashion schools of the world, supported and aided by and affiliated to the Ministry Of Textiles, Government Of India. Undergraduate Programs at NIFT

NIFT offers the following undergraduate programs :

  • 4-year B.Des.(Bachelor Of Design) in Accessory Design
  • 4-year B.Des.(Bachelor Of Design) in Fashion Communication
  • 4-year B.Des.(Bachelor Of Design) in Fashion Design
  • 4-year B.Des.(Bachelor Of Design) in Knitwear Design
  • 4-year B.Des.(Bachelor Of Design) in Leather Design
  • 4-year B.Des.(Bachelor Of Design) in Textile Design
  • 4-year B.F.Tech(Bachelor Of Fashion Technology)

Eligibility   requirements

For Bachelor of Design:

The candidate must meet the following criteria to be eligible for application :

(I) The upper age limit is 23 years as on 1st October 2019. There is a five-year relaxation for candidates belonging toSC/ST/PWD Categories.

(II) The candidate must have passed any of the following examinations :

  • The final examination of 10+2 system conducted by any Central or State   Board recognized by the Association Of Indian Universities (AIU).
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with at least five subjects.
  • Any exam in India or a foreign country treated as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the AIU.
  • General Certificate Examination(GCE)     (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the A level.
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office.
  • 3/4-years diploma recognized by AICTE/ any State Board of Technical Education.

(III) The candidate must have qualified the NIFT Entrance Exam.

For Bachelor of Fashion Technology:

   The candidate must meet the following criteria to be eligible for application :

(I) The upper age limit is 23 years as on 1st October 2019. There is a five-year relaxation for candidates belonging toSC/ST/PWD Categories. (II) The candidate must have passed any of the following examinations :

  • The final examination of 10+2 system conducted by any Central or State   Board recognized by the Association Of Indian Universities (AIU) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • Any exam in India or a foreign country treated as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the AIU with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
  • General Certificate Examination(GCE)     (London, Cambridge or Sri Lanka) at the A level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma of the International Baccalaureate Office.
  • 3/4-years Diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE/any State Board Of Technical Education.

(III) The candidate must have qualified the NIFT Entrance Exam.

Application Process

The application has to be submitted online before the prescribed date on their official website www.nift.ac.in. The application portal is expected to be opened by the third week of October 2018. Fill in the required details. An application fee of 1500INR has to be paid online. It is 750INR for SC/ST/PWD candidates. The application fee is non-refundable.

Admit Cards

All the eligible candidates can download the Admit Cards from the official site from the prescribed date.

NIFT Entrance Exam

The eligible candidates are requested to attend the NIFT Entrance Exam conducted to evaluate the candidates’ fitness for the courses applied.

Exam Pattern and Syllabus

For Bachelor of Design:

The candidates’ suitability for this program is determined by the entrance exam set in English expected to be conducted in the following three sections :

(I) General Ability Test: This section is expected to have a total of 100 questions and a 30% weightage in the final merit list. The maximum time allotted for this section is 120 minutes. This section is divided into the following :

  • Quantitative Ability: This section is expected to have a total of 20 questions. This section is expected to have questions relating to such areas as Multiplication, Addition, Division, Fraction, Percentage, Rate Of Interest, Work And Task, Ratio And Proportion, Distance and related areas.
  • Communication Ability: This section has a total of 25 questions. This section is expected to have questions pertaining to such areas as Synonyms, Antonyms, Words With Corresponding Meanings, Singular And Plural, One Word Substitutes, Idioms And Phrases, Correct Spellings and related areas.
  • English Comprehension: This section is expected to have a total of 25 questions. This section aims at evaluating the candidates’ ability to understand English and has questions to comprehend from a given passage.
  • Analytical Ability: This section is expected to have a total of 15 questions. This section aims at evaluating the candidates’ logical reasoning and analytical skills.
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This section is expected to have a total of 15 questions. This section aims at testing the candidates’ basic acquaintance with general knowledge and current affairs.

(II) Creative AbilityTest: This section is expected to have a total of 50% weightage in the final merit list. This test aims at evaluating the candidates’ innovative use of color and illustration skills.

(III) Situation Tests: The qualified candidates in the written exams, that is GAT and CAT,  are called to attend the Situation Test. Here the candidates are given a set of materials which they have to use efficiently to come up with an impressive model. Then they have to write about the concept behind the model in detail in English. The jury will evaluate the model on the spot on the basis of various parameters including innovation, material handling, and effective presentation.

For Bachelor of Fashion Technology(B.F.Tech.) :

The candidates’ suitability for this program is determined by the entrance exam called General Ability Test (GAT) set in English. The total number of questions is expected to be 150. The maximum time allotted for this section is 180 minutes. The test is divided into the following sections :

  • Quantitative Ability: This section is expected to have a total of 30 questions. This section is expected to have questions relating to such areas as Multiplication, Addition, Division, Fraction, Percentage, Rate Of Interest, Work And Task, Ratio And Proportion, Distance and related areas.
  • Communication Ability and English Comprehension: This section is expected to have a total of 45 questions. This section is expected to have questions pertaining to such areas as Synonyms, Antonyms, Words With Corresponding Meanings, Singular And Plural, One Word Substitutes, Idioms And Phrases, Correct Spellings, Reading Comprehension Questions and related areas.
  • Analytical Ability and Logical Ability: This section is expected to have a total of 25 questions. This section aims at evaluating the candidates’ logical reasoning and analytical skills. This section will have questions to identify a problem and to find solutions for the problem using creative and lateral thinking techniques.
  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: This section is expected to have a total of 25 questions. This section aims at testing the candidates’ basic acquaintance with general knowledge and current affairs.
  • Case Study: This section is expected to have a total of 25 questions. This section aims at evaluating the candidates’ managerial skills and abilities.
