NIFT Eligibility Criteria – NIFT 2019

Before applying for the NIFT Entrance Exam candidates must check the NIFT eligibility Criteria stated by the authorities.

As per the authorities if a candidate is found producing a fraudulent document or ineligible as per any of the criteria then their candidature will be terminated. So, aspirants must check the NIFT Admission Eligibility thoroughly.

This year the applications for NIFT have started and will conclude on 22 December 2018. While the test is scheduled on 20 January 2019, in the pen and paper mode only.

NIFT Eligibility Criteria

For B.Des. Course

This is an Undergraduate programme under NIFT. It is a 4 years’ course. It consists of the following programmes- Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Leather Design and Textile Design.

  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 examination from any recognized central/state board or,
  • Candidates who have taken the General Certificate Education Examination in London/ Sri Lanka etc., at the advanced (A) level or,
  • Candidates who have taken the exam in foreign countries and if that is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 are eligible or,
  • Candidates who have passed 3-4 years’ diploma recognized by AICTE or state board are eligible.
  • Candidates who are appearing for 10+2 exam are also eligible.

For B.F.Tech

Another Undergraduate course offered by NIFT. It is also a 4-year degree. However, the main focus of this programme is on Apparel Production.

  • Candidates who have cleared 10+2 examination from any recognized central/state board with physics, chemistry and mathematics
  • Candidates who have taken the General Certificate Education Examination in London/Sri Lanka etc., at the advanced (A) level or,
  • Candidates who have taken the exam in foreign countries and if that is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 are eligible or,
  • Candidates who have passed 3-4 years’ diploma recognized by AICTE or state board are eligible.
  • Candidates who are appearing for 10+2 exam are also eligible.

Age-wise

  • The maximum age allowed for general category candidates is 23 years.
  • There is a  5 years’ relaxation in age limit for SC/ST or Differently Abled Person (PHP) candidates.

Category Wise

For SC/ST Candidates

Aspirants applying under this reserved quota have to produce a Caste/Tribe certificate from the Competent Authorities of the respective States/ Union Territories/ National Commission of Tribes.

For OBC (Non-Creamy) Candidates

  • The candidate should have an OBC certificate issued in their name and not in favour of respective parents/guardian.
  • The caste mentioned in the OBC certificate should be mentioned in the Central list of OBCs available.
  • The OBC certificate should not be more than a year old and must clearly mention that the candidate belongs to the non-creamy layer.
  • The certificate must only be issued by the Competent Authority.

For PHP (Differently Abled Candidates) Candidates

  • At the time of submission of application, Physically Handicapped candidates will be required to attach a copy of Disability Certificate.
  • Such candidates are required to produce the original Medical Certificate both at the time of Counselling and at the time for Admission at the Institute.
  • It is mandatory for the Differently Abled candidates to attend the Counselling for evaluation.  The course will be allotted to the candidates after assessing their capabilities.
  • Candidates are advised to come prepared for such assessments at the time of counselling.
