What’s the first thought that comes to you when I say “Acids are present in Foods we consume“? Yes, they are present but, I’m talking about the ones which are necessary for our body for a healthy living. Wondering which acids do we get through healthy foods? Here’s a list of the necessary acids for our body, found in everyday food items.

Necessary Acids for our body

1. Malic Acid 

It is found in certain fruits like bananas, tomatoes, berries. It is used to cure Fibromyalgia, tiredness. It is added to foods to give the tart taste. It is a harmless acid when consumed in sufficient amounts. It also acts as an energy booster which reduces chronic fatigue. Apart from these, it is used in skin care products to enhance smoothness, complexion. 

2. Oxalic Acid 

It is primarily found in green leafy vegetables, fruits, nuts, cocoa. Consuming oxalic acid in large proportions leads to the formation of kidney stones, gastrointestinal disorders and many more. It has a corrosive nature which doesn’t allow efficient absorption of magnesium and calcium ions. ThereforeIt is used mostly for household or industrial purposes as a cleaning agent. 

 3. Lactic Acid

It is found in milk products like yoghurt, cottage cheese, cheese, buttermilk, cream. It occurs in these due to the fermentation process in these which are used for improving the flavours. Moreover, it is used to cure skin problems such as age spots, hyperpigmentation, improved skin tone and can reduce the pore appearances. It can be used as an energy booster. Our body uses Lactate for metabolizing carbohydrates. 

4. Citric Acid

It is found in lemons, oranges, certain berries, and even in tomatoes. It has the property of curing several skin problems like pigmentation, clogged pores, dark spots, mild acne. It acts as an antioxidant that reduces the process of ageing. Also, it can be used to break the stones formed in kidneys to smaller ones. 

5. Tartaric Acid

It is a naturally occurring organic acid present in fruits such as apples, grapes, avocados. The benefits, when taken in small amounts, include Immunity boost, improved intestinal absorption I.e. overall digestion. It is a natural preservative used in jams and certain fruit drinks. Overconsumption might lead to problems like inflammationgastrointestinal infections, nausea and destroys the digestive system. 

6. Butryic Acid

Also known as Butanoic acid. It is a saturated short chain fatty acid present in ghee, butter, raw milk, plant oils and animal fats. Its benefits include aiding digestion, improve overall gastric-intestinal health, fuels for the cells lining the interior of the large intestine/colon.
