India celebrates “National Girl Child Day” on January 24th
National Girl Child Day (NGCD) is celebrated in India on January 24th with an aim to raise awareness about Child Sex Ratio (CSR) levels and promote the empowerment of girls. The aim is to spread awareness about the declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) in the country and carry out campaigns to improve the same. It is also to empower the girl children with new opportunities via schemes and campaigns and to create a positive environment around valuing the girl child. The theme of National Girl Child Day-2019 is “Empowering Girls for a Brighter Tomorrow”.
ISRO Launches Microsat-R into Space
ISRO’s PSLV C-44 lifted off from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, SHAR, to successfully place into orbit a military satellite, Microsat-R.he mission with the modified PSLV with just two strap-on motors, dubbed the PSLV-DL (dual strap-ons), marked another first for ISRO as it provided an alternative to its normal six strap-on motors. This will enable it to carry slightly higher payloads than its Core-Alone version.
NABARD to Support SHGs
NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) will support women self-help groups (SHGs) involved in income-generation activities to market their products, Padma Raghunathan, Chief General Manager, NABARD, Tamil Nadu Region, Chennai, said on Wednesday. The self-help groups will be facilitated to market their products at exhibitions/melas organized during the festival season. NABARD will give a fillip to rural entrepreneurs and artisans, Ms. Raghunathan said, after inaugurating an exhibition at Thiruvaiyaru Aarathana ground.
India spurs global growth in public funding for neglected disease R&D
ICMR investment for tuberculosis research touches $6 million, a rise of 47% Indian public funding for research and development (R&D) in neglected diseases increased significantly in 2017, growing by ₹135 crore or 38%, contributing to the strongest global growth since 2009, according to a new report. Worldwide funding for neglected disease R&D in 2017 reached its highest level ever, exceeding $3.5 billion, according to the 11th annual G-FINDER report released in Geneva. At that level, funding was up 7% since 2016, driven primarily by new investments from the U.K., the European Commission, Germany, and India.
