Eligibility Criteria for IIST

For Undergraduate Courses

The candidates must meet the below-stated conditions to be eligible for 2018 Undergraduate Courses :

  1. The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  2. Candidates must be born on or after 1st October 1993. Candidates belonging to the SC/ST/PwD Categories must be born on or after 1st October 1988.
  3. The candidates belonging to General Category must have scored at least 75% aggregate marks in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Any language paper, and any other subject in any of the following qualifying examination. The aggregate marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates should be at least 65%.
    • The final examination of 12th grade, conducted by any Central/State Board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
    • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University examination conducted by a recognized Board/University.
    • The final examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy.
    • Vocational Higher Secondary Examination.
    • Senior Secondary School Examination by the National Institute of Open Schooling with at least five subjects.
    • Any exam treated as equivalent to the 10+2 system by the Association Of Indian Universities.
    • General Certificate Education (GCE) examination (London / Cambridge /Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
    • HSCE(High School Certificate Examinations) of the Cambridge University or International Baccalaureate Diploma.
    • If the qualifying examination is not a public examination, the candidate must have passed at least one public examination.
  4. The candidates must have passed JEE Advanced Exam with at least 20% aggregate marks and 5% in each of the three subjects. The minimum score for OBC-NCL candidates is 18% in aggregate with 4.5% marks for each of the three subjects. The minimum marks for SC/ST/PwD candidates is 10% in aggregate with 2.5% marks in each of the subjects.

For Postgraduate Courses

The candidates must meet the below-stated conditions to be eligible for 2018 Post Graduate Courses :

  1. The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  2. The candidate must be of 32 years of age as on 30/04/2018. Candidates belonging to SC/ST/PwD Categories are given an age relaxation as per the Government Orders.
  3. The candidates must have passed B.E./B.Tech/M.Sc or equivalent degree in the relevant area as is stated in the table below (Table 1) with a minimum of 60% or 6.5 CGPA. The minimum score required for SC/ST/PwD candidates is 55% or 6.0 CGPA. A valid score in GATE/JEST/ UGC NET in the relevant discipline is mandatory.

For Doctoral Programmes

The candidates must meet the below-stated conditions to be eligible for 2018 Doctoral Programmes:

  1. The candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  2. The candidate must be of below 35 years of age as on May 08 2018. There will be age relaxations as per the Government Orders.
  3. Candidates must have passed M.E. /M.Tech with a minimum of 65%/7.0 CGPA (60% /6.5 CGPA for OBC and 55%/6.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD)
    OR
    M.Sc in relevant discipline with a minimum of 65%/7.0 CGPA (60% /6.5 CGPA for OBC and 55%/6.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD) and a valid score in any National Level Eligibility Test
    OR
    M.A. in Humanities /Management /Social Studies with a minimum of 65%/7.0 CGPA (60% /6.5 CGPA for OBC and 55%/6.0 CGPA for SC/ST/PwD) and a valid score in any National Level Eligibility Test
  4. Candidates with M.E./M.Tech without a valid fellowship such as CSIR/NET-JRF/KSCSTE/CSIR-NET has appeared for a Written Screening Test before they are called for the interview. Others are directly called for the interview.

Admission Process

For UG Courses

The admission form is available online. Visit the admission portal and register filling the essential details. You will then be given a Registration number and password. After registration, the candidates will have to pay the respective Registration Fee online through SBI – COLLECT. The Registration Fee for male candidates in GNC/OBC-NCL is Rs.600. It is Rs.300 for female candidates in GNC/OBC-NCL and all SC/ST/PwD candidates.

The IIST Rank List will be published by 20th June, 2018. Then you can fill-in your choice of branch of study.

For PG Courses

The admission form is available online. Admission portal is now closed. Based on their scores in GATE and other qualifying exams, the candidates are shortlisted by the authorized. List of Provisional Selected Candidates is published. You can download the Interview Call Letter to attend the interview as required.

The selected candidates will be offered seats and have to attend the counseling session with the prescribed documents.

For PhD

Applications have to be submitted online in the official website (http://admission.iist.ac.in). Care must be taken while filling the form as you cannot make further changes after submissionFill-in the required details. Then you will have to pay a total of Rs.700 (Rs.350 for SC/ST/PwD candidates) as Registration Fee. Admission portal is now closed. Shortlisted candidates are required to attend the Interview /Written Test.

IIST Written Screening Test

This test is divided into two parts. Part A, with a maximum of 40 marks aims at evaluating the candidates’ aptitude and mathematical skills. The maximum time allotted for this section is 30 minutes and is common for all candidates. Part B is subject-particular and has a maximum of 60 marks. The maximum time allotted for this section is 1 hour.

The selected candidates will be called to attend the interview. The names of the selected candidates will be published on the official website on 19th June 2018.
