How to Solve IBPS RRB Classification Questions?

The First Few Moments After Seeing the Question

The first few moments after getting the question is crucial. The first thing that you need to do is calm your nerves and approach the question individually. A lot of candidates think about how many right answers or wrong answers they have given till now. Others might think about how many questions are still left to answer. This builds pressure and they often try to solve easy questions like these in a haste. This leads to wrong answers. So, you must first learn to calm your nerves before each question. The next thing that you need to do is read the question properly and ensure that you know what is being asked.

The Step-by-Step Process of Solving Classification Questions in IBPS RRB

Step 1 – The first thing that you need to do is read the question properly and then look at the options closely.

Step 2 – The next thing that you need to do is finding something common between the first and the second option as well as the first and the third option. If you cannot find anything in common, try to find if there is anything common between the second and the third option. This would solve the question to a large extent.

Step 3 – Once you have found something common between the first three options, you know the fourth is wrong. However, if that is not the case, and you have found something in common between two of the first three options only, then you need to consider the fourth option. This way, you can confirm that the direction you are going is right.

Step 4 – The only thing left to do now is answering. Just read the question once again and click on the right option.

Solving IBPS RRB Classification Questions

Let us take a look at the example and see how we can solve it by using the steps mentioned above.

Which of the following doesn’t fit in the group?

A) M

B) C

C) D

D) G

Solution: Step 1: We read the question and understand that we need to pick the odd one out. Then we look at the options. We have four letters – M, C, D, and G.

Step 2: We look at the first two letters M and C. In such cases, where there is no apparent connection, you should start with the position of the letter in the English alphabet. There, C is the third letter and M is the 13th letter. Note that both the numbers are odd. However, D is the fourth letter, which is not odd.

Step 3: Since we could not find any definite relation in the second step, we move to the fourth option. The letter G is the 7th letter, which is again odd. So, we have all odd-numbered letters except D.

Step 4: We mark the answer as D

Answer: Option (C).

Let us now look at another question.

Question: Which of the following doesn’t belong in the group?

Solution: Step 1: We look at the options and find that there are 4 options and each of the options there are three letters.

Step 2: Here the first thing that we need to do is look at the three letters of the first option. The letters should be related to each other in some way or the other. When we look at the last two letter of the first option, we see that the two letters follow each other in the English alphabet. In the English alphabet, Q comes after P. The case is the same with the second and the third option. So, the answer is the fourth one. O comes after N, but in the fourth option the last two letters are M and O. So, Option D is the wrong one.

Step 3: LMO is the right answer.

Answer: D
