Nowadays, College schedules are as hectic as they get. As an engineering student, I have seen my college timings stretch a full 10 to 12-hour day followed by projects, assignments and the usual routine academic work. Fortunately for me, my doctor parents would constantly remind me of the importance of health- Be it eating the right things or taking out time to relax or getting a good night’s sleep. And that’s when I realized that students in today’s world, hardly keep a watch on their eating habits or sleep patterns or do any physical exercises for months! Most of us being lazy as we often find ourselves pondering over the question ‘How to maintain health?‘, but do not ever work towards the answer due to infinite reasons every student have for being lazy.
Health is important but now the question arises that How to maintain health? So, here’s the answer
1. Join College Sports
Sports are not only great for health and fitness of the body but also helpful for the mind. Engaging in any kind of sports aids in developing values and skills such as teamwork, punctuality, discipline, strategic learning, dealing with success, failures, pressure and a lot more. Enroll yourself in a sports club at your college or gather your friends and play something. It will immensely help you to stay fit throughout your learning years.
2. Practice Yoga
As we all know, Yoga has many benefits both physically and mentally. It helps you increase immunity, flexibility, stress relief and an all-around fitness. You don’t need a specific place outdoor to do it. With several apps available to guide you through yoga, you can easily perform some asanas in your room as well.
3. Set an Exercise Routine
If you are into muscle building, you can try an exercise routine that includes squats, crunches, pushups, plank and other such workouts. You can search for videos online that will guide you through the basic workouts that you can easily complete within 15-20 minutes. But the most important thing is sticking through the routine. Grab a bunch of friends to exercise daily. This will help you find the motivation to continue every day until you form a habit.
4. Get Enough Sleep
Students sacrifice a lot of sleep. It is important to understand that your body and mind need rest to be able to fully function. Cutting down on those sleeping hours might complete your work but it is pretty hard on your body. Sleep deprivation paves way for illness and diseases in addition to weight gain, weekend immunity and much more. In case you are running on a tight schedule, always choose waking up early rather than sleeping late.
5. Eat Right
Students living in hostel often have a problem with food and that’s no new story. Ultimately, they end up eating junk food or no food at all. Thus, it is important to keep a watchful eye on your diet. Try to grab some fruits from the market and avoid fried food. Working on your meals and eating habits will cause a direct effect on living a healthier lifestyle and better immunity.
6. Never skip breakfast
Breakfast, being the first meal fuels you with all the energy you need for the day. It is even said that people who take their breakfast daily have a positive difference in their mood, fitness, and efficiency as compared to those who don’t. You don’t necessarily need to prepare something big for the breakfast. A cup of milk, bread, fruits, biscuits or even some yogurt works great to set you up for the day.
7. Health Always Comes First
Most importantly, it is important to take care of your body. Often fatigue, headaches, indigestion are signs that your body tries to give you. Take rest until you recover before getting back on your routine.
It is never too early or too late to work towards being the healthiest you!
