With a new academic session beginning, many of the students will leave their homes and head towards the hostels, in order to fulfill the dreams, many of you may not have been away from home for long and must be worrying on how to carry out your daily life routines at a place that is infamous for its chaos. Mostly, the hostels are considered places that turn a life of students into a war zone. So, if you have also heard stories from your siblings about fights for washrooms, bathrooms, food or even the fans, then, believe me, they are 100% right. Though, you need not worry as in this article you may find a solution to every problem and can easily live your life in the hostel. Here are some hostel hacks to help you survive in hostel.
Hostel hacks that one may easily follow to live a good hostel life
1. Stock your food.
Yes! You read it right. You need to stock up your food and that too with utmost care because there may be times at night or early in the morning where you wish to munch. So, if you will have the snacks with you then you can easily pass that phase out. Also, the mess food may not be available at odd times so if you have a stove or anything in your room then packets of noodles will come to your rescue every time. Besides, there may be some days where you may not want to eat the food from the mess so a packet of noodles will be easy to cook!
2. Do laundry on time!
Out of the comfort zone of the home, this part may be the hardest, although, you need to accept the fact that you have to do all your chores yourself. So, instead of piling up the laundry, do it daily, so that you could enjoy the spare time during the weekends. Moreover, this will ensure that you will get rid of the smelling piles of undone laundry in your room.
3. Treat roommates as family members!
Believe it or not, in the hostel life one thing that matters the most is the roommates. First meeting may be awkward but eventually, the roommates become so close that one may consider them as family members. Also, while you are away from home they are the ones who will be there for you at all times. So, it is essential that you must give them due importance and also you yourself should be a good roommate.
4. Do the cleaning.
Cleaning may not be the thing for you; however, relying wholly on the maid for the job is not cool. There may be situations when she leaves without notice or may be some corners of your room where her broom never reaches, or you may even notice a lizard, or a spider web. So, it is essential that you should do the cleaning yourself, as hygiene is very important.
5. Be ready to share stuff.
We all have come around the quote:
“Sharing is Caring”, so it’s time for you to show your care for others. Whatever stuff you own belongs to your roommates as well. If you used to quarrel over sharing small things with your siblings then you have to get over that habit while in the hostel, because it is not like:
“My stuff is my stuff, none of your stuff”
6. Be ready to get raided on returning after vacations.
Whenever a hostler returns from home, then the first thing the roommates go for is the luggage. All the things that your mom has stuffed for you are not only yours. Whether it is your favorite laddoos or snacks, as soon as you reach the hostel they will be raided and you may not see them again. So, it is advised that you should have plenty of them at home or stuff them in your mouth during the journey itself.
