7 Feel good Movies to Lift your Spirits

1. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

We all have fantasized about missing school and going on adventures and the protagonist of the movie Ferris Bueller does just the same. This is a decent, warm-hearted movie about a high school student skipping school to be with his girlfriend and his best friend to help him win some self-respect. He has just one enemy, the school’s headmaster, Ed Rooney. Together they travel around Chicago taking part in parades, gaping the wonders in Art Museum etc. and finally ending up at the top of the Sears Tower where the movie subtly reveals the themes of the movie. A light-hearted comedy, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is the kind of a movie which is always on rewatch list.

2. School of Rock

After being kicked out of a rock band, Dewey Finn played by Jack Black becomes a substitute teacher of a strict elementary private school, only to try and turn it into a rock band. School of Rock is as momentous as it can be about its comic subject and never patronizes its characters or its viewers. The kids aren’t turned into tedious little reincarnation but remain obstinate, uncertain, insecure and childlike. Jack Black remains true to his quick-tempered character all the way through; he makes Dewey’s personality not a plot scheme, but a way of living life. His high-powered brawling isn’t tiresome, because all his emotional levels are turned into his rant.

3. Big

A satirical comedy, the theme of Big is not a new one- A small boy stuck in a big man’s body. Tom Hanks plays 13-year-old Josh Baskin who has his wishes fulfilled at a carnival and turns into a 35-year-old adult. Still a teenager intellectually and emotionally, he tries figuring out his life. What follows are goofy adventures, hilarious situations and “innocence constructed as wisdom”.

4. Chef

A true feel-good movie, Chef is the story of frustrated chef Carl Casper who is out-of-job and out-of-sorts. He tries reinventing himself, starting a food truck and getting closer to the family in the process. A beautiful story about family and passion, this movie will surely make you hungry. So keep some snacks handy.

5. Clueless

Clueless is a breezy comedy, a modern take on Jane Austen’s novel Emma. While you might call is chick-flick but nevertheless, the movie will charm you. The protagonist Cher is an adorable, optimistic teenager who tries taking control of everything in her life. Obsessed with looks and popularity, her innate goodness will brighten up your laptop screen.

6. Amelie

Amelie is a French feel-good movie. A young waitress, Amelie is caught in her imaginative world. But she tries bringing happiness to everyone who is in desperate need ignoring her own joy. Through this movie, we understand our eccentricity gives us our humanity, and eccentricity being the main theme of the movie it leaves you feeling warm inside.

7. Legally Blonde

Legally Blonde is an ethereal comedy which is both absurd and charming. Elle Woods, played by Resee Witherspoon, is a rich  sorority queen who’s ditched by her upper-crust boyfriend who, with unadorned bluntness, tells her: ‘If I’m going to be a senator by 30 I need to marry a Jackie, not a Marilyn.’ In order to win him back, she decides to be the girl he wants and follows him to Harvard Law School, in spite of majoring in fashion merchandising. She succeeds in this journey with sunshine and quick wit though not without trouble knocking the door before.
