SSC Steno 2019 Skill Test – Knowing the Exam Pattern

The SSC Stenographer Skill Test is conducted according to a particular procedure. The details of the procedure are given below:

  • You will be given a dictation for 10 minutes. The language would be English / Hindi.
  • The required speed for candidates applying for Grade C would be speed will be 100 w.p.m. The required speed for Grade D Stenographer will be 80 w.p.m.
  • You will also have to transcribe the dictation on a computer in a given amount of time. The transcription time will be:
    Grade C – 50 min (English), 65 min (Hindi)
    Grade D – 40 min (English), 55 min (Hindi)

Admissible Error Limit in Skill Test:

  • UR(General): 5-7%
  • OBC: 6-8%
  • SC/ST: 7-10 %

Type of Errors in Skill Test

Errors are  classified into two types:

Full Errors in SSC Steno Skill Test:

  • The omission of a word or figure
  • Substitution of a wrong word or figure
  • Addition of a word or figure not occurring in the passage
  • Handwritten additions/corrections/insertions

Half Errors in SSC Steno Skill Test:

  • Spelling mistake
  • Using singular for plural noun and vice versa
  • Transposition of words/group of words in a sentence
  • Improper use of capital letters at the beginning of the sentence
  • Improper placement of the apostrophe in a word
  • Improper spacing between the words or in middle of a single words
  • Ambiguous over typing
  • Arbitrary and unfamiliar abbreviations
